Nexon reports record-high performance in 2018

Consumer Electronics 16:09 February 12, 2019

SEOUL, Feb. 12 (Yonhap) -- Online gaming firm Nexon Co. on Tuesday reported record-breaking annual performance for last year on the back of strong sales of online computer games in overseas markets.

Operating income jumped 9 percent on-year to 980.6 billion won (US$872.3 million) in 2018, and sales increased 8 percent on-year to 2.52 trillion won, the company said in a regulatory filing.

The continued popularity of online computer games such as "Dungeon & Fighter" and "Maple Story," coupled with new mobile games such as "Maple Story M" in the global market, contributed to the results, the company said.

Revenues from overseas markets came to 1.78 trillion won, 71 percent of the total, in 2018, compared with 59 percent in 2016 and 66 percent in 2017.

It was earlier reported that Kim Jung-ju, the founder of Nexon, would sell a controlling stake in the firm's holding company NXC Corp., which is held by him and his wife, as well as related companies.

Nexon was founded in South Korea in 1994, but its headquarters is based in Japan. The company's stocks were listed on the Tokyo stock exchange in late 2011.
