Seoul shares down 0.38 pct in late morning trade

SEOUL, Feb. 14 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded 0.38 percent lower late Thursday morning on institutional selling.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 8.40 points to 2,193.08 as of 11:20 a.m.

Institutions led the decrease, dumping a net 249.72 billion won (US$222 million) worth of local shares, while foreign investors scooped up a net 63.43 billion won.

POSCO, the country's largest steelmaker, lost 1.87 percent, and Dongkuk Steel Mill slipped 1.85 percent.

Leading pharmaceutical firm Celltrion sank 1.89 percent, and Samsung BioLogics slid 0.66 percent.

The local currency was changing hands at 1,125.05 won against the U.S. dollar as of 11:20 a.m., down 3.35 won from the previous session's close.
