SEOUL, Feb. 20 (Yonhap) -- Senior diplomatic officials of South Korea and the United States held talks here on Wednesday over comprehensive bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, Seoul's foreign ministry said.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Yun Kang-hyeon met with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Francis Fannon at Seoul's foreign ministry building.

Fannon arrived in Seoul on Tuesday for a three-day visit during which he also plans to meet private sector representatives to discuss energy innovation, investment, renewable energy and other issues.

The U.S. official's trip here is expected to highlight the energy pillar of the U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy, known as Asia EDGE, or Enhancing Development and Growth through Energy, while underscoring the importance of energy diversification in the region.
