SEOUL, March 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has recouped 68.9 percent of the public funds it spent to bail out troubled financial firms during the 1997-1998 Asian crisis, the financial regulator said Thursday.
The government has retrieved 116.2 trillion won (US$102.9 billion) of the 168.6 trillion won used from public funds, as of the end of last year, according to the Financial Services Commission (FSC).
The recovery rate was up from the 68.5 percent recorded at the end of 2017, the FSC said.
In the fourth quarter of last year, the government recouped 59.5 billion won out outstanding funds, it said.
