Combined profit of 6 credit bureau firms gains 27.9 pct in 2018

SEOUL, March 24 (Yonhap) -- The combined net profit of six credit bureau firms in South Korea rose 27.9 percent on-year in 2018, thanks to efforts to expand their business portfolio into new sectors, data showed Sunday.

The combined net income of the six credit bureau firms, which collects and evaluates credit data between consumers and financial firms, stood at 73.5 billion won (US$65 million) last year, up 16 billion won from 2017, the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) said in a statement.

Their combined operating profit rose 10.6 percent on year to 591.9 billion won in 2016.

The six firms include Korea Credit Bureau, NICE Investors Service and Korea Ratings.

Meanwhile, the combined net profit of 22 debt-collection service firms in South Korea jumped 37.1 percent on year to 13.4 billion won in 2018, according to the FSS.

Their combined operating profit rose 8 percent on year to 58.2 billion won last year, it said.
