Moon's support inches up on gov't response to wildfire: poll

All News 10:18 April 11, 2019

SEOUL, April 11 (Yonhap) -- President Moon Jae-in's approval rating inched up this week from the previous week on the back of the government's response to a recent blaze that engulfed eastern areas, a poll showed Thursday.

Moon's support came to 48.1 percent this week, up 0.8 percentage point from the previous week, according to a Realmeter poll of 1,508 people across the country. The survey was conducted from Monday to Wednesday.

The pollster said the increase was apparently affected by the government's swift response to the devastating wildfire that burned the country's northeastern province last week.

But the rise also appeared to be capped by several negative factors, including Moon's appointment of two controversial ministers that came despite opposition objections, it said.

The support rating for the ruling Democratic Party reached 36.5 percent this week, down 2.4 percentage points from the previous week.

The reading for the main opposition Liberty Korea Party came to 31.2 percent, unchanged from a week earlier.

The poll had a margin of error of 2.5 percentage points and a 95 percent confidence level.
