SEOUL, April 17 (Yonhap) -- Marvel's latest "Avengers: Endgame" is on its way to creating another sensation in South Korea, where the superhero series has been popular over the past decade.

According to data from the Korean Film Council, the flick already surpassed 500,000 in the number of presold tickets on Wednesday morning less than 20 hours after the opening of its online sales.

The tally is expected to soar at a faster pace as tickets for 3D and IMAX theaters will be put on sale from Thursday.

The film that brings to an end its Avengers saga will hit local screens on April 24.

"Endgame" is a "combination" of the 22 films produced under the Marvel Cinematic Universe brand, which has played out since the release of "Iron Man" starring Downey in 2008.

The three actors -- Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner and Brie Larson -- and directors Anthony and Joe Russo visited Seoul this week as part of a world promotional tour.
