Seoul shares trade nearly flat Wednesday morning

SEOUL, April 17 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded nearly flat late Wednesday morning as investors continued to lock in part of recent gains.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index inched down 2.11 points, or 0.09 percent, to 2,246.52 as of 11:20 a.m.

Market behemoth Samsung Electronics slipped 0.21 percent while No. 2 chipmaker SK hynix moved up 0.5 percent. LG Electronics lost 2.31 percent.

Top automaker Hyundai Motor advanced 1.17 percent, and its auto parts affiliate Hyundai Mobis climbed 1.11 percent. Kia Motors increased 0.84 percent.

Pharmaceutical firms traded mixed, with Celltrion rising 0.48 percent while Hanmi Pharmaceutical lost 0.46 percent. Samsung BioLogics increased 0.68 percent.

The local currency was trading at 1,135.40 won against the U.S. dollar, up 0.30 won from the previous session.
