All Headlines 18:14 April 22, 2019

SEOUL, April 22 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and Kazakhstan will share know-how in 5G-network technology and work together to take full advantage of the fourth industrial revolution, the government said Monday.

The move to expand ties comes as Science and ICT Minister Yoo Young-min signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with Astana's Ministry of Digital Development and Aerospace Industry earlier in the day.

"South Korea enjoys international competitiveness in such areas as information and communication technology (ICT) that can be helpful for such endeavors as the Digital Kazakhstan (2018-2022) program," the ministry here said. It said that the Central Asian country views Seoul as an ideal partner in the ICT sector going forward.

The MOUs and the letter of intent to set up an international information technology center in Kazakhstan's capital were all reached on the sidelines of the bilateral summit meeting between heads of the two countries.

South Korea was the first country in the world to launch full-fledged 5G services on April 3, which provides super fast connection speeds, low latency and the ability to connect many more devices without the system being bogged down.

It is also committed to the pursuit of the fourth industrial revolution that is characterized by many technologies, like digital, biological and artificial intelligence, all being merged together to create an economic and social system that is different from the present, and can generate new growth across the globe.

The MOU on space development is expected to help South Korea export satellites.

Asia's fourth-largest economy has sent 15 satellites into Earth's orbit and has steadily increased cooperation with other countries in the cutting-edge field.
