Expelled from management agency, K-pop star Park Yoo-chun to retire from show business

SEOUL, April 24 (Yonhap) -- K-pop star Park Yoo-chun has been expelled from his management agency, it announced Wednesday, one day after police filed for a court warrant to arrest him on drug charges.

"(We) decided to end the exclusive contract with Park Yoo-chun upon the judgment that our trust with him is irreparable," C-JeS Entertainment said.

"We learned through the media yesterday that the National Forensic Service test came up positive. We have been following the result of the investigation, having believed Park's claims to be innocent," said the management agency of boy band JYJ, in which Park is one of three members.

Calling the result "lamentable," the company said that the 33-year-old singer and actor will "retire from the entertainment industry, call off all his (public) schedules and bow down to a court decision."

After his former fiancée, Hwang Ha-na, a scion of a major dairy producer, was arrested for the alleged purchase and use of methamphetamine earlier this month, Park had faced suspicions of illegal drug use. On April 10, however, Park held a press conference and denied the allegations.

Contradicting his claims of innocence on Tuesday, the police said a drug test on a sample of Park's leg hair turned up positive and that they are seeking an arrest warrant for Park.

"We acutely feel the seriousness of this issue and a sense of responsibility for it," C-JeS said, vowing "thorough" managerial efforts to prevent a repeat of it.

An initial urine test on Park showed no trace of drugs, but the police secured a sample of his body hair while searching his home in Hanam, south of Seoul, and his car earlier this month.

Park showed up having shaved his body hair when he was interrogated by the police in mid-April.

The court will hold a hearing on Park on Friday to decide whether to issue the arrest warrant.
