All News 11:40 April 26, 2019

SEOUL, April 26 (Yonhap) -- President Moon Jae-in on Friday made a trip to the eastern province of Gangwon, which suffered severe damage from a massive wildfire early this month.

It was the latest in a series of presidential tours of cities and towns outside Seoul and Gyeonggi Province meant to help revitalize local economies, according to Cheong Wa Dae.

Moon began the "economy tour" across the nation in 2018. Gangwon is his fifth destination this year after earlier visiting Ulsan, Daejeon, Busan and Daegu.

He met with a group of residents staying at a shelter after losing their houses in the fire.

He also inspected a wildfire site in Goseong, where recovery work was under way.

The government earlier designated Goseong and other affected areas as a special disaster zone to expedite the government's support for victims and recovery efforts.
