As the capital area has consecutively encountered scorching heat, the tropical night phenomenon has been prolonged for a fourth night.

Amid such conditions, a large apartment block in Seoul experienced a blackout and the residents had to go through extreme inconvenience.

Lee Jae-dong has more.

During the daytime, citizens came out of their houses as the heat showed no signs of subsiding.

<Jo Seong-ju / Nowon-gu, Seoul> "The weather like today is hot, humid and frustrating, but here there is some wind so it feels much better."

In some places in Seoul, the minimum temperature during the night was 27 degrees and the tropical night continued for the fourth straight night.

Amid such conditions, a large apartment block experienced a blackout during the night.

An old electric transformer in the apartment block experienced an overload, which caused a fire, hence cutting the supply of electricity to over 1,400 households.

<Park Yeong-suk / Resident of Apartment> "Food in the refrigerator has all melted, and patients or children are really vulnerable to such hot summer weather. But, residents are not able to complain…"

The supply of electricity was restored six and a half hours after it was first cut off at around 9:20 PM, and apartment residents had to go through significant inconvenience as the supply of water and coolers stopped working.

There was an incident where a man got into an accident while engaging in outdoor activities during the summer night.

Last night, Kang, age 27, fell off a bridge while driving an electric scooter in Bongeunsa-ro, Gangnam-gu, near Tancheon-gyo.

The rescue squad, after 30 minutes of searching the water, found Kang unconscious, and Kang was quickly transported to a hospital.

The police and the fire department are currently investigating the details of the accident of Kang by questioning the witnesses and other means.
