Criticizing the government's oppression of film festivals, the Busan International Film Festival revealed that it will cooperate with the special prosecution's investigation.

With regards to the result of the special prosecution's investigation on BIFF, head organizer Kang Soo-yeon announced in an official statement, "We have been subject to various retributions simply because we showed movies that the government did not like, and the reputation we built over the past 20 years was seriously damaged."

Recently, it was reported that the special prosecution has secured a testimony about former Chief of Staff Kim Ki-chun giving instructions to eliminate all government financial aid to BIFF because they showed "The Truth Shall Not Sink with Sewol," a documentary film about the Sewol disaster.
