With the Lunar New Year holiday just around the corner, special prosecutors are ever more busy.

As they plan to investigate President Park Geun-hye face-to-face after the holidays, they need to raid the Blue House, and they also need to continue to pursue the investigation into bribery charges that have resurfaced.

Park Hyun-woo has more.

Park Young-soo's special prosecution team has repeatedly said that a raid of the Blue House is necessary.

<Lee Gyu-cheol / Spokesperson for Special Prosecution> "We think that a raid is needed for some aspects of the Blue House..."

<Lee Gyu-cheol / Spokesperson for Special Prosecution> "(A raid of the Blue House) is deemed necessary... we will schedule and pursue it without further delay..."

As for the timing of the raid, many have pointed to when the various investigations came closing down on President Park.

The special prosecution team arrested former Chief of Staff Kim Ki-chun and Minister of Culture and Sports Cho Yoon-sun, the two figures that were considered the most difficult to arrest in the artist blacklist investigation. In addition, though the arrest warrant was rejected, they also secured testimonies and evidence about Samsung heir Lee Jae-yong's bribery charges, enough to request a warrant.

Moreover, they have publicly emphasized, for the sake of the investigation schedule the president must be investigated early next month. Therefore, it is highly likely that they will attempt to raid the Blue House this week, about a week before the face-to-face investigation.

As for the investigation on bribery charges, which took a blow after the arrest warrant for Lee Jae-yong was rejected, other figures like Hwang Sung-soo, managing director of Samsung Electronics, and Park Won-oh, former managing director of the Korea Equestrian Federation, were subpoenaed, and a compulsory investigation for Choi Soon-sil, who is suspected of receiving bribes, will also take place. Some thus analyze that the special prosecutors will decide whether to re-apply for the warrant to arrest Lee as early as this week.
