Prosecutors will interrogate former President Park Geun-hye for the second day today (April 6) at the detention center.
They also decided that Choi Soon-sil, currently imprisoned at the same detention center as Park, will be transferred elsewhere.
Park Hyo-jung has more.
The prosecutors’ second interrogation of former President Park Geun-hye in jail is expected to be similar to the first time.
The prosecutor, venue and time are not much different, either.
During the first interrogation, Park reportedly argued that she was unaware of Choi Soon-sil taking private gains, and that it was all a result of people like Ahn Jong-beom, the former chief presidential secretary, stretching and misinterpreting her instructions.
After the interrogation, she took more than three hours to go over the investigation records.
This implies that she still does not entirely trust the prosecutors’ investigations.
In fact, even with the new evidence prosecutors presented, she reportedly did not change her attitude from last month, when she denied all charges.
Prosecutors are focused more on an indirect supplementary investigation, rather than a cross-examination with accomplices.
While interrogating Ahn Jong-beom, they already reportedly reconfirmed that establishing foundations and collecting donations from conglomerates were executed based on instructions from Park.
In addition, they plan to summon Lotte CEO Shin Dong-bin again to look into whether the donations were made in return for any favors.
As Park’s imprisonment period is set to end this weekend, prosecutors plan to extend the period to further interrogate her.
Meanwhile, prosecutors have decided to separate Park and Choi, both designated as the key accomplices of the scandal, and will transfer Choi to Seoul Nambu Detention Center.
