Defense Ministry to Deploy Recovery Forces

From April 21, the recovery and identification forces dispatched by the Ministry of National Defense will join the missions to search inside the Sewol.

An official from the forces revealed such plans in a meeting with reporters following the first meeting with the Sewol Investigation Committee.

The forces will dispatch two incumbent experts from the military, including a former leader of recovery missions with more than ten years of experience. They will train private search personnel and take on an advisory role.

The Investigation Committee explained that for now, the military forces’ role will be limited to guidance and supervision, but could be deployed to the actual site if need be.
