amidst Resistance from Opposing Organizations

An event celebrating the birthday of Emperor Akihito of Japan was held in Yongsan-gu of Seoul with opposition from some NGOs.

The Japanese Embassy in Korea held a celebratory reception with 700 participants ranging from personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and corporations in honor of Emperor Akihito’s birthday on the 23rd of this month.

Japan designated this day as a sort of a national holiday and has been hosting celebratory events by inviting figures from the host country every December.

Some members of NGOs held pickets in demonstration at the entrance of the venue from about an hour ago but no real collisions have taken place yet.
