Apple lowered iPhone battery replacement costs in Korea and was overwhelmed with numerous customers trying to replace their batteries at the Apple service centers.
The models subject to battery replacements are iPhone 6 or later models. Replacements took over an hour due to long lines of waiting customers and some had to return home due to supply shortages.
Apple previously stated that it will replace the batteries of iPhone 6 or later models if their battery capacities fall below 80 percent, which was highly criticized, and later changed its policy to replace the batteries regardless of battery test results.
Meanwhile, Korean consumers who were outraged by Apple’s policies submitted a class action suit and the number of consumers in the suit has grown over 240,000 as of Jan. 2.
