on Comfort Women Issue

President Moon Jae-in emphasized the necessity of a sincere apology from Japan in order to resolve the comfort women issue on Wednesday.

At his government's new year press conference yesterday (Jan. 10), President Moon said,“The women can forgive Japan only if Japan sincerely apologizes for its actions.”

President Moon also said,“The issue regarding comfort women was not an issue that could be resolved by both governments simply exchanging terms and conditions while excluding the victims in the process.”

He also revealed his intent to negotiate with Japan along with comfort women victims and non-governmental organizations regarding the agreement of 1 billion won for the victims, which was reached between the Park Geun-hye administration and the Japanese government at the time.
