More than 20 billion won has been allocated in the Defense Security Command budget every year to cover its special activities expenses.

According to data from Lawmaker Kim Hae-young of the Democratic Party of Korea, the Defense Security Command received 24.7 billion won worth of special activity funds last year and 21.5 billion won this year. The money is three times higher than the 6.2 billion won doled out to the National Assembly this year for the same purpose.

Special activities expenses were said to total 100 billion won during both the Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye administrations, but details have remained undisclosed.

Kim said, "There is a growing call for fundamental reforms of the Defense Security Command, and it should scale back funds and needs strict supervision."
