As a sweltering heat wave continued to grip the country, Seoul logged morning temperature at 30.3 C today, marking the highest level in 111 years.
The previous hottest morning on record was July 23, when the mercury reached 29.2 C.
It is the first time in the country's history that Seoul experienced a 'super tropical night,' in which the low temperature in the morning did not fall below 30 C.
Temperatures in other areas including Incheon and Dongducheon also marked the highest levels since the statistics have been compiled.
The Korea Meteorological Administration said that temperatures that rose above 38 C yesterday did not fall enough, thus causing tropical nights in many areas.
