The minimum wage for next year has been set at 8,350 won.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor posted in the government's official gazette that it has set the country's 2019 minimum wage at 8,350 won per hour and 1.74 million won per month, which applies to all workers nationwide regardless of business type.

It represents a 10.9 percent rise from this year's 7,530 won proposed by the Minimum Wage Council on July 14.

The ministry rejected calls from small business owners to reconsider the minimum wage level.
