'Comfort women' shelter to close amid scandal

This photo taken July 5, 2020, shows a residence, located in Mapo in western Seoul, that had been used as a shelter for elderly South Korean victims of wartime sexual slavery under Japan's colonial rule. The Korean Council for Justice and Remembrance (KCJR), a civic group running the shelter, announced a plan to close the shelter amid a mounting scandal involving its former head, Yoon Mee-hyang. Yoon, now a lawyer, is suspected of misappropriating donations and exploiting the victims for her political ambitions.
