Meeting on Harvard professor's paper

South Korean Gender Equality and Family Minister Chung Young-ai (C) presides over a meeting with a group of experts to discuss issues involving Harvard professor Mark Ramseyer's controversial paper at the government complex in Seoul on March 2, 2021. In the paper titled "Contracting For Sex In The Pacific War," Ramseyer claimed that "comfort women" were not sex slaves but prostitutes who voluntarily worked in Japanese military brothels. Comfort women refer to around 200,000 Asian women, mostly Koreans, who were forcibly taken to front-line military brothels by the Japanese army during World War II. (Yonhap)
