Shim Jun-seok, an 18-year-old South Korean pitcher who has signed a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates, speaks to reporters at Incheon airport, west of Seoul, on Jan. 24, 2023, before his departure for the United States. The Pirates confirmed their agreement with Shim, a hard-throwing right-hander out of Duksoo High School in Seoul, as part of 22 free agent signings on Jan. 15, when the 2023 international signing period opened.
